P2/3 Florencecourt Trip

21st May 2024

We boarded Johnnys bus 🚌 with great excitement for our fun adventure to Florencecourt House. On arrival we were met by our wonderful guides. After a short comfort stop and snack we split into our year groups.
P2 were introduced to their guide Joan and together with Mrs McConkey they set off on their adventure. They followed the character ‘Trusty’ the hedgehog, on their woodland walk.  They investigated the difference between what is natural and what is man made. They were very quick with their responses to Joan. They had to think about the five senses -  smell, touch, sight  hearing and taste. They were given an opportunity to use their senses when moving around the woods. They thought about the difference between plants and animals and why both are so important to the woodland habitat. The class had lots of fun on their mini beast hunt. They found lots of very different species of minibeasts which they investigated under their magnifying glass.
P3 were introduced to their guides Rozy and Sam and together with Mrs Ebbitt and Miss West they all set off on their class adventure. Rozy set up a class camp on the footpath were we could all introduce ourselves and tell about our favourite things from nature. We then looked at what a flower is made up of and we each were given a card with what to look for, roots, stems, flowers and leaves and the variety in a small area was amazing! We then set up ‘camp’ off the beaten track, in the woods - Rozy took out her compass and a map and we had to close our eyes and use our sense of hearing to track where  sounds were coming from - we were amazed with all the different sounds we could hear! Then onwards, Rozy had set up a track of different things we had to do on our walk, smell the earth, hop like a frog to name but a few...great fun. Then we arrived in the walled garden. We used our sense of smell to smell herbs such as mint, the beautiful roses, the Mini hedgerows. Rozy and Sam then played a pollinating game to show us how bees 🐝 pollinate the apple trees. Finally we hit our mini beast trail. We were amazed at the amount of mini beasts we found, big and small, slow moving and fast! We examined our finds under the  magnifying glass! Such excitement!
After a through hand wash we enjoyed our lunch and sharing our stories, We even had time to have a quick go in the play park. A wonderful fun day had by all! Thank you Mrs McConkey for organising such a great day out 🤗
