P7 Oakwood Bushcraft trip 08.03.22
What an adventure P7 had during their trip to Oakwood Bushcraft in Tamlaght. Tony and Stevie were the perfect hosts and provided us with an action-packed day containing shelter building, lighting fires, archery, cooking your own hotdogs and lots of running around with classmates exploring the surroundings. P7 were divided up into three teams. Each team had to come up with their own name, so we had the “Big Bananas “, the Dark Monkeys “ and the “Rubber Ducks “. The teams were sent on a picture hunt, they then had to do a hoop challenge followed by a team memory game. After those introductory activities, the teams were tasked to build shelters that would hold eight people, be dry and would be camouflaged. All teams succeeded. The next activity was lighting a bit of cotton wool using a ferro rod. After the children mastered that skill, a lively competition was held. Now that P7 knew how to light a fire, the next challenge was to bring a Kelly kettle to boil. The last activity was archery, which was enjoyed by all. Lunchtime proved another adventure with Tony making pizzas in his pizza oven and Steve providing the children with hotdogs that needed to be heated up over the open fire. Dessert consisted of heated marshmallows between two chocolate digestives. Yum, yum! It was an amazingly, brilliant day!
